A French Chapel Commissioned Charcoal Drawing. This Has Taken Me Months To Complete.
Conquering a Creative Roadblocks: A Personal Artistic Endeavor.
After several obstacles and setbacks, I am elated to announce that I have finally finished my latest artwork! “A French Chapel”
Although I had some difficulty with the ivy in the foreground, I was determined to push through and overcome this hurdle. This piece took me months to complete, but I am ecstatic that it’s finally done.
Working on commission can be difficult for me personally. The added pressure of someone waiting for results takes away the joy of the work for me sometimes.
Although I haven’t received any complaints regarding the time it takes for me to complete my work, I personally feel that it takes too long.
At the moment, I have work obligations that I need to meet to make a living. Additionally, I am occupied with creating this website/blog, drawing, as well as taking care of my basic needs eating, sleeping, and breathing.
Frankly, I am amazed at how parents manage to find the time and patience to raise a child.
Despite my initial goal of finishing this drawing in April, I unfortunately just completed it, and it’s already the end of September. I missed my target by five months….

The drive to complete a commission before starting a new project can be incredibly strong. It can feel almost like a betrayal to do otherwise.
However, when working on personal projects, it’s common to balance up to five projects at once. Jumping between each drawing depending on what i fancy working on that day.
While natural talent and professional training can be beneficial, the sheer love for what I do and the willingness to keep working are what is going make the difference.
Wouldn’t life be lovely?
At the moment, I’m teaching myself how to create a website and exploring my interest in art. While I’m an amateur artist, I don’t have all the answers to building a website either. However, my passion for drawing is driving me forward, and I’m confident that everything else will fall into place eventually.
Charcoal & Graphite.
What do you need?
To create this drawing, I used a variety of charcoal and graphite pencils as well as rubbers and smudging stumps.
I started with a lightly sketched basic outlines using a harder charcoal pencil.
Then, gradually build up the tones and textures by layering and blending different shades of charcoal and graphite.
The Delicacy of Charcoal: A Medium with Dramatic Results
Charcoal’s versatility allowed me to capture the delicate features perfectly. By utilising the contrast between the charcoal and white paper, I was able to create a dramatic effect that heightened the overall impact of the drawing.
When it comes to drawing, charcoal and graphite offer a diverse and expressive medium. Utilizing both materials provides an extensive range of effects, from subtle lines to dramatic shading and textures. Charcoal is famous for its profound black tones and its ability to create atmospheric effects, while graphite offers a more nuanced and controlled approach to drawing.
