George Bar and Restaurant, Kirton In Lindsey. Built in the 1700’s.
“The George” Created with Charcoal & Graphite, taking over 60 hours to complete.
The George: A Building with a Rich History and a Bright Future.
Having known this building my whole life and even worked there a few times before, I have witnessed its transformation over the years. Currently, the establishment is owned by Glen and Diane, who have reinvigorated the outdated structure.
Excitingly, November 2022 marks a significant milestone for The George, as new renovations are underway. This picture will soon become a nostalgic reminder of the building’s past as it undergoes a remarkable transformation.
Gratefully I’ve been given the Opportunity to Showcase my Artwork at The George
It brings me great joy to have had the chance to include this work in my portfolio. I hope that this drawing will remain a permanent fixture in the building. Starting November 2022, it will be on display at The George.
I invite you to stop by and view it for yourself. While you’re there, I highly recommend trying the delicious food – be sure to check if there are any available tables.
The Struggles Starts With A Wonky Get Go
The building has a peculiar design, to say the least. It was erected during the 1700s, and the only straight and parallel lines it has is the drain pipe.
Interestingly enough, this is where I began my work. It’s the most accessible point in the building relative to my location, and it’s a straight line, which helps.
Drawing Dimensions for “The George” Charcoal Drawing
The paper size used for the project is A3, measuring 297 x 420mm (11.7 x 16.5 in). I started the project on March 8th 2022 and it took me approximately 60 hours to complete. Due to other commitments, I spread the work over a few months and is now nearing completion in August. I had periods of time where I had no progress made on the project for several weeks.
Creating a More Dynamic Outline
The outline is finally taking shape and no longer appears to be two-dimensional. I prefer to work from left to right to avoid smudging and keep the paper looking neat and tidy.
I use a magnifying glass for the smaller details. I should maybe just get my eyes checked.
Got Myself a New Desk.
The Impact of a Well-Organised Desk on My Creative Process
Ever since I set up my new desk, I’ve been drawing much more consistently. Having supplies neat, organized and within reach has encouraged me to spend an hour or two every now and then. Before, when I had to set everything up and then pack it away, it felt like more effort to sit down for shorter drawing sessions.

Ends At An Awkward Point
By some odd turn , I managed to complete the piece with the chimney. Since I’m ending in such an awkward spot, I had to use a clean A4 sheet of paper to lean on and avoid any smudging incidents.
When a drawing is finished a permanent fixative is applied to the drawing. Fixative only protects and i always recommend frame and hang any artwork as soon as possible out of direct sunlight (Read More On Art Care Here). This will prevent it from getting dusty or damaged.
Pondering my path to accomplishment.
Reflecting on my Journey, I’m happy to have been able to do this piece, during the process I had some ups and downs but looking back I’m happy at what I accomplished. If you would like to own a Print of “The George” they are now available for purchase here.
