This pack explains how the commission process works, what to expect at each stage, and the key terms that help protect both your investment and my studio time.
Commission Process
1. Timeline
Each piece is given the time it needs for careful studio work, finishing, and packing. If you have a particular date in mind, please mention it as early as possible. Rush commissions may be possible depending on availability.
Completion times vary depending on:
- the size of the piece
- the level of detail
- current workload
- drying or finishing time if needed
- any agreed deadline or special requirements
2. Payment Terms
To secure your commission, a deposit is required before work begins.
Payment terms:
- deposit due before work starts
- final balance due before delivery or collection
- artwork will not be released until full payment has been received
- delayed payment may affect the working schedule
If payment is not received by the agreed date, the commission may be paused or cancelled.
3. Reference Material and Brief
To create a piece that feels right for you, I will ask for:
- reference photographs
- subject details
- preferred size
- any story, memory, or meaning behind the commission
If you are not sure how to describe what you want, that is completely fine. Share as much as you can, and I will help guide the rest of the process.
For the best results, reference images should be:
- clear
- well-lit
- as high quality as possible
- representative of the subject you want captured
4. Communication
I keep communication clear, calm, and purposeful so the process stays smooth and focused.
Usual updates may include:
- booking confirmation
- reference confirmation
- progress update, if agreed
- completion notice
- dispatch or collection confirmation
Please allow time for replies, especially during deep work sessions, market days, or busy periods.
5. Revisions and Changes
Small changes may be possible during the early stages of a commission.
However, once work is underway, larger changes may affect:
- the completion date
- the final price
- whether the piece can still be completed as originally agreed
Please contact me as soon as possible if you need to change the brief. I will always be honest about what is possible at the stage the work has reached.
If revisions are included, they should be agreed in advance. Any extra work beyond the original brief may be charged separately.
6. Approval
If your commission includes a final approval stage, I will show you the finished piece before delivery.
At that stage:
- minor adjustments may be possible, depending on the work
- I may ask you to confirm that the piece is ready to be posted or collected
- once the artwork is complete and approved, significant changes may not be possible without a revised agreement
- This helps ensure the final piece is delivered with clarity and confidence for both of us.
7. Delivery and Collection
Once the final balance has been paid, your artwork will be carefully packaged and sent using the agreed delivery method.
I take great care with packaging so that each piece is protected as it leaves the studio.
If the artwork is being collected in person, please arrange a suitable time in advance.
8. Care Guidance
To help preserve your artwork:
- If your commission includes any specific care instructions, I will include those separately.
- keep it away from direct sunlight
- avoid damp or humid conditions
- handle carefully, especially around the edges and corners
- frame or store it in a clean, dry place
- avoid touching the artwork surface directly
