Morning in a nutshell feature image

Could it be a winner? | Under The Art | Me, My, World

Starting off strong in 2024 with this one.

Closing out 2023 with a commissioned artwork and commencing 2024 with an entry to a drawing competition!

I’ve been contemplating this decision for some time now, continually imagining how it would all play out. However, it’s time to turn those thoughts into action and make it happen.

As an artist, there is nothing quite like creating a one-of-a-kind piece for someone to cherish for years to come. However, this often means there is little time left for developing my own personal portfolio.

So 2024 I will be taking a step back from commissioned requests and focusing on what I enjoy creating the most.

The Delightful Journey of Creating “Morning in a Nutshell” Still Life

Crafting the perfect still life can be a magical experience, and the process of creating “Morning in a Nutshell” was no exception. Every element, from the alluring patterns of the coffee cup and miniature plastic airplane to the ebony shine of the fabric backdrop, was carefully chosen. The final touches of nuts and a balancing cigarette provided the perfect finish.

Progress Morning

I was making good progress on my drawing, filling up a significant portion of the page before battling the coffee cup pattern. Creating a very light marks of the pattern I etched a faint guide, marking points of significance for the pattern. Starting from the heart of the design, the rose, I gradually worked my way outwards. Once I was content with the placement, I traced over the faint etched marks with a dark charcoal pencil to create the final product.

The Plan For This Piece

I’m sure not all art competition have this criteria, I’ll just have to keep look and seeing if I can find some where that’s a bit more flexible on the rules. Before I do anything with any of my work, it get sent to Richard to get Professionally scanned and colour matched. I’ll most likely leave that till the end of February so I have a few pieces to take to him.

That might be next months blog, stay tuned.

Thanks for reading.
